A 49-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attempting to board a flight at Sacramento International Airport with what authorities described as a suspicious explosive device hidden inside his carry-on luggage.
Federal investigators say the suspect was stopped during a routine TSA security screening when officers discovered several alarming items inside his bag. The man, identified as Kimani Osayande Jones, also known as Kimani Osayande Jackson, was immediately taken into custody.
According to officials, investigators found an explosive device, a high-powered lighter believed capable of triggering it, multiple knives, scissors, zip ties, aerosol containers, and five cell phones. One of the phones reportedly had a 15-minute timer activated, while another displayed a chilling message that read: “We will be waiting for your call.”
Authorities also noted that the suspect allegedly entered the airport wearing latex gloves and had part of his face covered with a scarf, behavior investigators considered suspicious.
Bomb specialists from the FBI and local law enforcement safely neutralized the device. Officials later confirmed that the explosive was functional and could have caused serious damage if detonated aboard a pressurized aircraft.
At this time, investigators have not revealed a possible motive or the suspect’s intended destination. The case remains under federal investigation, and if convicted, the man could face several years in prison along with significant fines.
Authorities continue to investigate whether this incident was part of a larger plan or an isolated act.
